I’m Jessica a fashion and decorating enthusiast that is always looking for my next DIY project. I’ve always been creative but there was a period in my life where I lost who I was, creativity and all. I had taken on the role of workaholic. If you ask my husband, he would have told you my fingers were glued to my blackberry and my conversations consisted of ugh huh, OK yeah…..all while typing a hundred miles an hour. I’ve now come to the conclusion that I was on autopilot, I feel like I was Adam Sandler in the movie click. Sad, I know, but I am pleased to say that after a little soul-searching I was able to change my outlook on things and create a work/life balance that allowed me to start enjoying the things that matter most, and I am pleased to say that since then I’ve planned a wedding, started sewing and taken on numerous DIY projects that I wouldn’t have been able to do any of it without the help of youtube and fellow bloggers, so it’s only right I return the favor. I hope you enjoy my new blog My Love of Style where I will share stories, photos, trends and DIY tutorials for fashion, interior decorating, sewing and home renovations.
My Obsession with DIY Renovations
My constant obsession with DIY Home renovations started the day Jairus and I moved into our first home it was September 23rd 2005. The night we moved in I was up until 3 a.m. re-painting the kitchen (there was this horrific floral wallpaper that gave me the hebejeevies) and I just couldn’t take looking at it one more day. I painted the Kitchen a bright red, looking back, I don’t know what in the world I was thinking but that was only the beginning. I re-painted every room in the house before the year was up and have painted it over and over and over again.
After awhile I became brave and wanted to take on more challenging DIY home improvement projects. At first, I thought taking on DIY projects would be fairly easy, at least the people on HGTV make make it look easy, but I soon learned that it wasn’t as easy as it looked. It took a lot of research and tons of trial and error, so I wanted to share my DIY Projects and lessons learned with all of the brave DIYers out there, so whether you’re looking to enhance the look of your house through architectural mouldings (wainscot paneling, casing, crown moulding, etc.), install new flooring, or transition your kitchen or bathroom cabinets this is for you. If I can do it, so can you!! I hope that my stories and lessons learned will inspire you and help you long the way. Always remember, the more you do it, the easier it gets.
My husband Jairus and I are newly-weds that have so many ideas and things we want to do in life that if we sat down and wrote them all down it would be a list longer than Santa’s naughty and nice list combined. Scary, right?? 8 months ago, heck maybe even 6 months ago, we would have said the same but together we are learning how to make sense of our ideas and figure out how to accomplish the things we want. We are definitely taking baby steps and I mean baby steps to get to the real baby steps but having a plan and getting onboard as a team is hardest part (atleast I think that’s what “they” say) Fingers crossed that “they” whomever that maybe be, knows what they’re talking about!! All I know is Jairus and I are finally looking in the same directions and are looking forward to the journey ahead with one foot in front of the other we are ready to conquer our problems, face our fears and make the most of each and every day. I know, I know, it’s cheesy or just wishful thinking, but like “The Secret” says, “if you think positive, positive things will happen”. Here goes nothing!
Oh, and I can’t forget about Foxy, she’s our 8 year old Pomeranian. A girl couldn’t ask for a better dog, she’s my sidekick and has recently become quite the DIYer.
