We are having our Fall Family Photos taken this upcoming weekend, so of course I’ve been on the hunt for outfit ideas and photo props to use during our session. One of the great things about Fall (aside from the fabulous fashion trends and accessories) is the beautiful colors of Fall Foliage. The colorful backdrop and falling leaves makes Fall one of the best times of the year for Family photos.  Since you already have a beautiful setting compliments of mother nature you can move on to the stressful part of family photos…What to Wear.

I’ve put together a list of the things to consider when it comes to What to wear in your Fall Family Photos.

  • Color scheme – You should stick to 3 colors with one of the colors being a neutral (ivory, brown or grey). Pick a color scheme that matches your surrounding environment  so stick with Fall colors (reds, yellows, oranges, dark greens and browns).
  • Coordinate – Next you need to coordinate your outfits, but don’t make them match perfectly, as that will ultimately clash.
  • Details – Fall fashion is full of AMAZINGLY FABULOUS Accessories from boot socks to hats to scarves and everything in-between. Another small detail that can make a difference in those up-close family photos is nail polish, especially photos where you’re holding hands or photo props. When we had our family pictures taken in the hospital after I had Riley my nail polish matches Riley’s dress and really made the photo pop.
  • Layers – One of my favorite things about Fall fashion is layering. You can mix plaids with solids, think button downs + sweaters (pullovers or cardigans) add a vest (puffer vest or my favorite…fur vest). A few other layering pieces are blazers and trench coats.

Here are a few Fall Family Photo Outfit Ideas I put together by color scheme.
