I know it’s been awhile since I shared my Craft Room Vision Board and layout, but I am thrilled to say that my Craft
Room Makeover is almost complete. It’s been a long process with full of DIY projects including these Pink and White Damask Storage Boxes. The color scheme of my craft room is pink, white and gold, so I wanted to make sure to incorporate those colors into all aspects of the room, so I decided to give all of the craft storage boxes a customized look.
I didn’t want all of the storage boxes to be identical, so I decided to go with several complimentary patterns mixed with a few solid options. In this tutorial I’m going to show you how to make these pink and white damask storage boxes. I loved this pattern so much that I decided to line the back of the storage cubes in the same pattern.
Okay, Let’s get started!
Here is what you will need:
- Photo Box
or Shoe Box
- Pink and White Damask Scrapbook Paper (I purchased this pattern at Michaels)
- Mod Podge
- Martha Stewart Gold Gilding
OR Craft Smart Gold Paint Pen
(they both look very similar)
- Book-plate (I re-used the ones that came on the photo boxes and for the shoe boxes I purchased Martha Stewart Self-adhesive book-plates
)
- Hot Glue Gun (only if you’re re-using the label holders from photo boxes)
- Pink Paint – I used Seashell Pink (by Folkart) mixed with Baby Pink (by Folkart) mixed with White
- Paint Brush
- Scissors
Okay friends, let’s get started!
Pink and White Damask Storage Boxes
Step 1: If you’re using a photo box you need to take off the label holder (I used a little screw driver to pry mine out).If you’re using a shoe box, move on to step 2
Step 2: Paint your entire photo box / shoe box and lid pink (I ended up giving my boxes 2-3 coats) Sorry I didn’t take a picture of this step :-/
Step 3: Place your scrapbook paper face down and lay the front side of your box on top of the scrapbook paper. You want it to slightly overlap on the sides and the bottom. Make a line with your pencil where you should cut.
Step 4: Cut your scrapbook paper along the lines you marked. Then you want to cut a line where the scrapbook paper overlaps at the bottom and side. This is so that it will fold seamlessly.
Step 5: Trace around the piece of scrapbook paper you just cut out to get the outline for the piece that will go on the back of the shoe box/photo box.
Step 6: Repeat step 3 for the side of the box; however the side pieces should be the exact width of the box (it shouldn’t overlap like the front and back piece) however you want the length to be about 1/4 inch longer than the length of the shoe box. Cut along lines.
Step 7: Apply Mod Podge onto the front of the box
Step 8: Apply Mod Podge onto the back of the scrapbook paper

Step 9: Place the scrapbook paper onto the front of the box. Use a credit card or some sort of straight edge to smooth out any air bubbles.
Follow the same steps to apply the scrapbook paper to the back of the box; then to the sides of the box.
Step 10: After you’ve applied the scrapbook paper to sides of your box apply a thin layer of mod podge all the way around to seal the edges.
Step 11: Paint the label holder gold with liquid gilding or your gold pen.
Step 12: Use your hot glue gun to re-attach the old book-plate or if you’re using the self adhesive book-plate peel it off and place it onto your storage box. Instead of re-using the old book-plate I used a small self adhesive book-plate for this storage box.
And Viola….You have your very own customized Pink and White Craft Room Storage Boxes
